For those interested in a spent booster impacting the lunar surface, this rare occurrence has decades of history, going back to the Apollo era, when NASA intentionally crashed spent stages into the Moon for science and seismic research. The reality is that meteoroids strike the lunar surface hourly, with impacts comparable to this upper stage occurring roughly every six days. The future lunar base will incorporate reusable spacecraft that not only deliver astronauts and payloads, but also become part of the infrastructure itself.
I have to wonder if the vehicle requirements have made the thermal problem a bit worse than it needed to be. First, the vehicle was designed for two planets (Earth and Mars) where entry is vastly different. It is also being adapted for the Moon, which drives yet again a vastly different set of requirements. This is a challenging architecture to begin with.
This is an area where NASA could probably help. The experts noted that NASA has not made substantial investments in thermal protection research for vehicles entering from low-Earth orbit (speeds of Mach 25) for three decades. The underlying technologies on Starship, they note, are all based on work done for the space shuttle, National Aerospace Plane, or X-33 programs. No one today, they said, is seriously investing in new, advanced thermal materials for orbital reentry. Miller, who interviewed a number of senior NASA officials as part of the transition team work in late 2024, said he was told nothing was in the basic research development pipeline. However, he said current and former NASA researchers in this area felt like there were some promising solutions to pursue. “Based on all this we recommended that NASA create a new initiative to invest in Mach 25 thermal protection system research, development and demonstrations,” he said. So far that has not happened.

I don't invest in space stocks because I cover space companies, or pretend to understand irrational market moves. But the idea that a space company stock would fall after an abort, which actually saved the rocket shows the company's procedures work as intended, is pretty dumb.

Could it be that these machines that can add, multiply, divide, sort, eliminate, and remember will someday be able to think? The answer is definitely negative. While the computer is an advance in man’s thinking processes as radical as the invention of writing, it is neither the symbol of the Millennium nor a flawless rival of the human brain. There are limits to human genius. Man can devise the most complex machines, but he cannot give them life or bestow upon them the powers of reason and judgment. Why? Because these are divine gifts, bestowed solely at God’s discretion.
The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Despite that doctrinal context, there is opposition. In the United States we are suffering from a deterioration in marriage and childbearing. For nearly a hundred years the proportion of households headed by married couples has declined, and so has the birthrate. The marriages and birthrates of our Church members are much more positive, but they have also declined significantly. It is vital that Latter-day Saints do not lose their understanding of the purpose of marriage and the value of children. That is the future for which we strive. “Exaltation is a family affair,” President Nelson has taught us. “Only through the saving ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ can families be exalted.” The national declines in marriage and childbearing are understandable for historic reasons, but Latter-day Saint values and practices should improve—not follow—those trends.
Many parents will find that they can turn their family on if they all turn their technologies off.
It is appropriate that we slow down the announcement of new temples.
The appointment of a new president of the Church happens in an orderly way that — remarkably in today’s world — avoids any trace of internal lobbying for position or rank. Viewed by members as a divinely revealed process, it is devoid of electioneering whether behind the scenes or in public.

I liked the positive messages of each contributor of the Galactic Federation of Worlds from the Ashtar Command. Think Star Trek!!! Mostly the BAD ET storyline is told by our media.
