Join us for a reading and conversation featuring writers from this groundbreaking collection, Decolonizing Afghanistan: Countering Imperial Knowledge and Power (Duke University Press; edited by Wazhmah Osman and Robert D. Crews), which is the first comprehensive volume to explore the impact of empire on Afghanistan’s past and present. We will be joined by Zohra Saed, Moustafa Bayoumi, Wazhmah Osman, and Morwari Zafar, who will share cross-disciplinary, ground-up perspectives on colonial projects in Afghanistan and paths to decolonial futures.

Join the Poetic Research Entanglements for a spring afternoon of poetry talks and workshops, featuring Gauri Awasthi, poet of the forthcoming book Mother Wound, and Lina Bergamini, Director of Marketing & Community Engagement at Nightboat Books. This event foregrounds the parallel process of poiesis, publication, and circulation of poetry books in our current moment. Lunch will be served.
Join us for a panel discussion on digital colonialism: the use of digital technology for political, economic, and social domination of another sovereign country or people. Science, technology, and infrastructure have always been crucial to colonial conquest, but today the United States controls a vast digital empire. Digital colonialism includes everything from transoceanic fiber-optic cables to cloud server farms, to social media platforms and AI-based surveillance services.
