longer answer is that it's kind of the fact that it's limiting that makes them sick, i guess? because you can't use them on everything all the time and there's a lot of strong ways to spend meter in +R it's very rare that you 100% *need* to know an FRC for a character to function and it's even rarer for said FRC to be especially difficult, so they're kind of an optional mechanic that you don't need to engage with when you're learning. it adds layers to a character's kit that you can engage with at your own pace. them being tied to specific moves means that those moves gain depth that you don't see with RC in the later games because YRC and drift RRC and shit are *so strong* that you want to get the most out of them.

i have so many things to criticize sf6 for, i don't like how many ways you can just declare "neutral is over" and force your opponent to react, i don't like perfect parry, i don't like how centralizing normal throw is when you can't tech OS, i think games without air blocking are stinky. the super meter feels vestigial and idk how i feel about how it affects rounds 2/3. there could be more and better women. but like shit everything else feels so good. i love how the system mechanics and the lack of + frames make offense outside point blank a lot of spacing traps and weird timing reads at +0. i love walking into my opponent's effective range and down backing to make them waste 3 bars on a DRC because they just threw out an EX that did nothing and winning because of that decision. i love how fireballs work. burnout pressure feels really satisfying on the characters that don't suck at it. i think i've grown a lot as a player since the game came out, i really wasn't in a place on my journey to appreciate what this game does.
