Why do we listen to albums? How about music? Some people say its a way to decorate the air and time and i think thats close. But I think there's more to it. There's other things we can listen to now. Podcasts, YouTube Videos, Silence. So why do we choose music? Is music an antquated relic of before we could recreate other sounds easily? This is what this album made me think about. I probably found out about 100 Gecs around the time this album came out. I didnt listen to their music at the time, but their name was funny, and I'm sure I made the 100 Gex joke that everyone else has made since. My first exposures to their music would have been in references in SiivaGunner songs, and the skatune network cover of Stupid Horse. I know at some point I checked out a few of their songs, and they weren't for me. I didn't get it. I didn't like that it was painful to listen to. I didn't like the bass boosting and high pitched vocals. And I moved on. There was a world of other music for me to still get into.

Breaking News, Local Woman who should have been a Scene Queen in 2017 likes Emo album, more at 5. The tragedy in this exercise is that we must move on. This album always felt one more listen away from truly clicking with me. I noticed more things each time I listened to it. I love the intro and exit track, and i got used to the screaming (a difficult thing for most screamo for me). I like this album and I know I could love it. It is all going on my Eclectia 2026 playlist, to hopefully find more. I will be keeping my eyes on the band, and eagerly await their next album.
If you're sold by the pitch that an album is gay, and you need nothing else, this album is for you. Everyone else? Lets just chill for a second. Sometimes albums dont click with me. There's nothing too wrong with it, it just really isn't music that I particularly like. It reminds me of the charles manson quote about sex being like going to the toilet to him. none of the tracks stand out to me. it doesn't feel particularly queer beyond a couple of surface level mentions. i find it a bold choice to have sisters in the name of your band where you only have one woman. none of it comes together in a way that i think works for this album. which is a shame. this album has the energy of a straight couple seeing you across the bar and "liking your vibe" then ignoring you in the bedroom. this album has the energy of volunteers at the local lgbt support center that would charge people money for water. i dont hate this album. its fine. musically its fine. lyrically its fine. i just dont think it works for me. and thats fine. maybe it will for you.
This album makes me want to bully it. Does that mean I don't like it? No! I actually really enjoy it. It just also gives off the vibes of a middle schooler who thinks that he's actually evil and the worst person ever, and finally going to stop trying to suppress that part of himself, but cant even work up the courage to ask his waitress for no ketchup on his burger. Again, this isn't a bad thing, it just makes me want to fight it. Some stand out tracks include Starkiller, and Necromancin Dancin. Although there does seem to be like. a layer of misogyny kinda all over this album. Not a fan. Also not a fan of the song titled a slur for the Romani people. Definitely worse albums you could listen to.
I really like a lot of this album. Obvious highlights include get him back! and bad idea right? i really like the lyrics on this album, there's a lot of really fun double meanings, and they paint a very vivid picture of exactly the emotions she's feeling so quickly. Im not a huge fan of the opening track or the lead single, and i think that mostly comes down to the way that she's swearing feeling forced on those tracks? like im no prude, but i think those tracks kinda just fumble it with her delivery. I think the 5 extra songs from the 2024 version are all real solid, even if they do make the album kinda long in the end. obsessed and girl ive always been feel like they belong here so much that its hard to imagine this album without them.

I'm not huge into Grunge. My uncle once grabbed some spoons, stood on the diving board of his pool, yelled Spoonman, and jumped. I like post-grunge, and punk, and ska a lot, but I've never much been one for grunge. This was solid though. There's a reason Black Hole Sun and Spoonman are classics. Wild that most of the songs on the album are like 5+ minutes long. I might be a cracked out zoomer with no attention span, but thats a bit long. Not that it super matters though because it sure doesn't feel long listening to it, Never any parts that I directly think "Huh, why is this so long". I think in a world where I had picked this up at a thrift store and looped it in my car for months, id probably actually be a lot more into grunge now. #mywave:)
Yeah yeah, we all knew this one was coming, when it got suggested by like 3 different people. The thing is, I was on the Jhariah train before any of them. I remember seeing Jhariah on Mega Infinity's stream back in 2020, and I don't think any of yall were listening to him back then. Of course any credibility that having Beginners Guide on Eclectia 2021 brings me is immediately washed away by the fact that this album was even eligible for this project. Because yeah, I'm terrible at keeping up with new music when im in a relationship, and 2024 for me was kinda defined by that for me, which was the year this album came out. Anyways, all that out of the way, yeah this album rocks. I know it. You know it. We all know it. I love this album, FIRE4FUN and EAT YOUR FRIENDS go so hard, and are like perfect songs to do pretty much anything that needs a rush of energy. Definitely entering my regular rotation.
Good album, although i think Time hasn't been as kind to it as you'd think. I know this album is like super influential, but that doesn't change the fact that so much has built off of it since then that its become quaint. Like watching old YouTube videos. Like yeah, it was interesting and did push the concept of what an album could be forward, but it wasn't by anymeans a peak. Favorite Tracks: Thats not me, I'm Waiting for the Day, and Sloop John B. I do think that as a whole the album does come together to tell a solid coming of age story.
