Canopy Archive: 235 bloom OUT NOW 235 bloom is an intertwining story about a neighborhood emergency worker-turned-spy and a self-exiled mech pilot mercenary, returning home. That home is the metro Jordan and I met and grew up in: Des Moines, Iowa. And the story is very much about what that city looks like, 60-some years from now. Not a wasteland out of a Mad Max movie, nor a world where corporations used technology to make the climate crises we’re facing just magically disappear. This is a future with great social upheaval, but it’s not all doom and gloom. The yards that are today filled with neatly manicured European grass, have become veritable jungles of agricultural production in 2089. Community-scale 3D printers, alongside decentralized energy production, allow for unprecedented freedom for neighborhoods and communities to sustain themselves within a global economy of raw materials and digital information. This is a future that we could, just maybe, see come to pass.
