Analog tech is gaining traction because people are getting increasingly frustrated with not owning the things they buy. Also, the cover art, manual, disc art, etc... Are things that are usually not present with digital downloads. Oh. And nostalgia too, that plays a big part.

Because as we age, we see that the corporations want to control ownership and access through digitalization, thus the only way we can rebel against that is to own things physically. Now to play MGS, you don't need to repurchase some digital anniversary reprint every 4 years. You own it.

Congrats on snagging this! I remember how excited I was to get this as a kid, it was unlike anything I'd played before! I think part of the reason is that it's complete. Think about how many games these days that on launch don't include big chunks of game.

i think it's less to do with nostalgia and more with the fact that you just can't get analog stuff nowadays! we don't have THINGS anymore, and we're starting to find out the real downside to it. digital everything is convenient as hell but the drawbacks are hitting hard.

I hear you. I’m 45 and I find myself doing this from time to time. I was *just* this morning browsing used late 90s and early 00s games on Goodwill. Not many, but a few PS and reissued PS CDs, like the Final Fantasy collections.

I think there's always been an appeal to analog tech. Older generations have nostalgia, but younger people who discover it also recognize that there's a lot about it that's clearly superior. I can put a PS2 game into the console and just play it. No updates, no server connection. It just works.

I remember how much this game blew my mind when it came out. I think I still have my original copy somewhere, too! This was peak Metal Gear, IMO. Every game since has been chasing what SOLID accomplished.

I think every generation goes through this period where you’ve got a grown up job and you can finally afford the stuff you wanted as a kid (or rebuy the stuff you didn’t fully appreciate). Boomers denied themselves this joy and that’s why they’re so miserable.
