I think that’s their point. Control the supply chain, keep the profit that would normally go to retailers, force gamers to buy a new game from them instead of used copy from the 2nd hand market and…finally take the game away from gamers claiming it’s due to licensing deals expiring. 💩
What a bummer. Them offering you $5 for a game that they will go on to sell for $50 is really breaking my heart. As a fool who worked for GameSpot for WAY longer than they deserved, I will reserve a violin quartet for their Titanic as it sinks. That company has been shit for decades.

Without rentals or Used games, I wouldn't have had a childhood of video games. We never had much money growing up (for a number of reasons), and I know there are kids out there still in the exact situation I was in back then. To hell with Sony.
This is Sony's goal with the decision, ultimately they want to have a price monopoly for PlayStation games. It has nothing to do with the fact that fewer physical games are sold.
Another nail in the coffin for physical ownership. This is exactly why we still press records and CDs.
