“I will find my soul.” (In the night sky, the gray light becomes colorful and brightens into the star-like point of light on the diamond ring of an eclipse.)
“It’s okay if it takes forever…” (The gray light gets a little brighter. And this panel-sized landscape image is now shown to be a square-shaped bubble, as if “spoken” by a space probe with a satellite dish and other equipment, which now approaches the lunar module on its course through space.)
“I have to.” “It’s the only thing I can do.” “The only purpose I’ve ever had.” (The figure turns to face the Darkhouse, and now a faint gray light can be seen up in the sky through the darkness.)

The top of the tower is emanating a sphere of darkness, which at its edges desaturate the color of everything around it, and nearer its source blot out everything entirely.)
“And my greatest fears devoured themselves.” (The gray figure is now falling, having dropped their off lantern as well as a glaive, falling away from the night sky behind the top of an enormous brick castle tower looming over them.)
“I don’t "have no proof"...” “I proved a contradiction.” (As the spiral static fire twists around the speech bubble, it shows the astronaut facing another figure in a gray cloak and scarf, holding an extinguished lantern. There is another speech bubble above them, depicting a larger creature that only barely and vaguely resembles the gray figure with its otherwise horrible and evil features; countless tentacles instead of feet, a skeletal torso, clawed hands, a trident with 3 barbed sword blades, bat-like wings, a disproportionally large mouth and tongue with jagged teeth, empty gray eyes, twisted horns, and a knotted brown halo above its head.)
“I lost my soul.” (There are no longer comic panels. Before the night sky, 2 halves of a computer monitor lean to either side, having been cut in half down the middle. Fire that appears as static noise with a black and white spiral pattern writhes out of each half of the broken screen. An armored figure in a black cloak hovers above, a black hole halo behind their hooded skull-shaped mask that cries lava. In one hand they hold a small fire, and in the other a huge scythe with a ram-horned dragon skull at the end of the staff where the blade protrudes from its jaw. “When I don’t know what’s happening.” “When I don’t know how to make sense.” “When I don’t know what to do.” “When I’m very, very tired.” (The 4 panels now are entirely black. As the lunar spacecraft returns to Earth during a lunar eclipse, a space probe slowly drifts towards you.
You see a planet in the sky above you, where a sphere of darkness emanates from a location on its surface, blotting out all color. You lose signal.
Once outside, you look up at the lighthouse behind you. It’s completely dark.
You go back down the stairs. The jukebox is playing silence. All the lights are off, except for just one over the blackboard, where the last logic statement written on it, “This sentence and its negation prove anything,” had been crossed out. You find your way back to the front door on the ground floor.
You look around.
You walk up and reach out to the keeper, but your hand passes through him as his image glitches out of existence.
(Why is everyone careful with me?! Can they tell how messed up I am?! Why can’t I help myself?! How is my purpose what I always fail to do?)
“I’m sorry.” (I feel wrong.) “Please don’t worry. I’ll be okay.” (How do I prove I’m not lying to myself? That I haven’t betrayed myself?) The galaxies in the sky slowly recede from view.
“I don’t even know anymore.” (How do I know I’m not unknowable?) “Don’t you know what I mean?” (Am I even intelligible?)
“It’s all that I am. I just want to be myself. Without it… I’m not. I’m not myself. I’m nothing.” He looks down as the room slowly darkens, lowering his voice to the point where you can barely hear him.
“I have to. It’s the only thing I do. It’s the only thing I can do. It’s the only purpose I’ve ever had.”
Then he looks back at you. “Do you know why I create? Why I look for meaning? Why I lose myself in the cosmos?”
Then he breaks eye contact and looks away awkwardly. “...hi.” He mumbles in a soft-spoken voice, followed by an uncomfortable silence.
You walk up to the keeper, confused. He’s dressed in a gray cloak that completely hides him, and a small lantern sits on the floor next to him. He’s staring out the window, lost in thoughts within thoughts. Then he turns around and stares through you.
Before you is the lens of the lighthouse, an intricate glass structure shining in every wavelength of light. It’s so large, a railing prevents you from falling into the open area where the lens is held up by a mechanical pedestal. The light bulb inside the lens has an event horizon. The walls and ceiling of the room are all windows, and a deep field of galaxies is visible in the sky. Here the lighthouse’s signal is clearly displayed, in a frequency on the order of string vibration, a block of code that uses hypercomplex numbers and seems to loop forever without proof of any contradiction. And on the other side of this cosmic observatory, you see the lighthouse keeper.
You climb the last flight of stairs and enter the bright light pouring down from above.
On the next floor, a long row of arcade machines display published video games. There’s a jukebox playing chiptune, and on a side table is a book, which you sit down and read. In it, you’re imagining yourself.
The next floor has larger windows for a better view of the sky, and ambient light fixtures on the walls. Next to the stairway are bookshelves and file cabinets filled with folders and papers haphazardly organized, if organized at all. Some are in arbitrary stacks, and a few others lay scattered on the floor. The windows are covered in sticky notes. There’s another desk with a typewriter and a Turing machine on it. You pick up a piece of paper, and read an infinity symbol, the Greek letter omega, and a double arrow pointing between them. There’s also a blackboard with statements written in logic symbols. One reads, “This sentence has no proof.” Another says, “If this sentence has a proof, its negation has a shorter proof.” The last states, “This sentence and its negation prove anything.” You go to the next stairway and hear music coming from above. Next to the stairs are a few unfinished arcade machines in various states of disrepair.
You find a lamp and turn it on, illuminating the room. The lamp is next to a laptop on a desk with an office chair in front of it. The windows behind the desk have blue curtains. You turn around and see what you had bumped into, a coffee table with a box of papers now scattered across the floor. There’s a picture frame right above the front door that simply reads, “i’m ok.” You look around and see an old telephone unplugged, and an empty bookshelf up against another door. You look up the stairs and see works of art along the wall.
The room is dark, and you can’t see anything at all. You flick the light switch, but it doesn’t work, and your own light is out of battery. So you stumble through the dark, and bump into something, knocking it onto the floor with a loud “thud.”
You wait. You notice the aurorae have faded away. There is no answer for a while, and you start to wonder, until eventually the door opens, and you look inside.
You arrive at the steps leading up to the door. There’s a gravestone next to them that reads, “Author.” Seeing no door handle on the front door, you knock.
You cross the bridge over the waves of quantum foam. On the other side, you see ahead of you the front door of the lighthouse and a lantern hanging above it.
You stand at the edge of a cliff and gaze at the lighthouse of this island universe shining over the ocean. Aurorae dance around it as if it’s the magnetic pole. A long stone bridge leads across the sea.
You follow the path up and around a gentle hill, the aurorae growing brighter behind the lamp posts, when you notice something over the hill and leave the path for a better view.
You cross a stone bridge leading over the winding river. Soon after, you find a large crater where the impactor hit the path, which still continues over the crater’s edge. An aurora begins to appear in the sky, as colorful as the stars.
You find a stone path lit by a rainbow lamp post, and switch off your own light as you’re nearly out of battery. There’s a sign that has a home icon and an arrow pointing further down the path. You follow it, and soon after you’ve left the lamp post turns off.
You slowly touch down, barely able to see anything other than the galaxy in the sky. So you turn on the flashlight built into your astronaut helmet, and see around you craters, stalagmites, and a river reflecting the light of the stars. You set out, following footprints that lead away from where you landed.
You descend from deep space towards a moon eclipsed by a bright and colorful light shining on its surface.
Orange text: "Because we can't." Blue text: "Because we care too much." --- Panel 19: The two of them are in a void outside reality, looking out in the distance at a black hole with a colorful accretion disc, firing beams in opposite directions.
Blue text: "...If it's that hopeless..." "...why don't we just... not." "Not try. Not start over." --- Panel 15: The blue and orange figures now face each other on the space station. The sun has gone dark, and the stars are dim. The orange figure holds a tome. --- Panel 16: Now the station is destroyed, the blue figure is gone, and the orange figure is reading from the tome, while in the distance galaxies collide and the universe collapses. --- Panel 17: In an entirely different scene, the orange figure is gone, and the blue figure stands still as chunks of the remaining station are displaced, and glitchy numbers and letters appear in the background. --- Panel 18: There is no scene. The panel is completely black besides the text.
Orange text: "No. Nothing can be saved." "We can't change our ultimate fate." "Our only choice..." Orange text: "The maker of everything is evil..." "...and doesn't care..."
