The Return of the King (1980) I for whatever reason have always remembered just one song from this addition to the animated The Lord of the Rings movies. From my childhood again. The song that lives rent free in my head, Where There’s a Whip, There’s a Way. Sang by the Orcs of Mordor. I’ve just begun the movie and await the scene with the song I’ve always remembered. From the internet again; The Return of the King (1980) is a Rankin/Bass animated musical television film, a sequel to their 1977 The Hobbit, adapting the final volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. It follows the hobbits' quest to destroy the One Ring at Mount Doom while their allies fight Sauron's forces, featuring a distinctive hand-drawn animation style and voice cast including John Huston as Gandalf and Theodore Bikel as Aragorn. The film is known for its unique art style, music, and its sometimes confusing place in the larger Tolkien film adaptations. Confusing indeed. I’m fifteen minutes in and it defo is it’s own take on the story.
The Lord of the Rings (1978) I’m going to copy and paste this straight from the internet because it actually describes the movie better than I ever could this time. Another one from my childhood that I’m watching right now. The Lord of the Rings (1978) is a landmark animated fantasy film directed by Ralph Bakshi, adapting the first half of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic novel, covering The Fellowship of the Ring and part of The Two Towers. It's known for its unique blend of traditional animation and rotoscoping (tracing over live-action footage) and follows the Fellowship's quest to destroy the One Ring in Mordor. The film was intended as the first part of a two-part adaptation, but a sequel was never made, leaving the story incomplete. The animation is just-weird to say the least and yet this movie is nostalgia overload for anyone who saw it on the telly when they were little. It’s defo worth a watch.
The Hobbit (1977) animated movie. I’ve seen it! I know I have! When I was little I believe. I just finished watching all the movies, The Hobbit movies and The Lord of the Rings movies. Extended Versions. I’m still in the mood for Middle Earth. Seems like home to me. There are three animated movies. 1977 to 1980 I believe. I intend to watch them all in order and then rewatch The Rings of Power. I started re-reading The Hobbit too. I’ve not read it in an age. That should keep my head full.
Faramir, David Wenham The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers I have at least one thing in common with Faramir. Our father, a right proper bastard. When I was little, I constantly tried to be better for my father but my best was never enough. I had no brother or sister though. Nobody to defend me. Nobody else to look up to. My Mum was an island. She was worthless too. I still love Faramir but my feelings have changed somewhat as now I loathe my father and hate that he still has any power over me.
I think if Tolkien could know how beloved his writing was this many years past his time on this world he would be astonished at all the art, fanfics, The Rings of Power, the movies, role players, videos, books, gifs, poems, all of it, everything his books have brought about. People arguing against are just being silly. Tolkien would be absolutely bowled over at what he'd inspired in us all.
The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers. #nowwatching #extendedversion Faramir going to hurt my heart again. I’m one of the many that doesn’t appreciate how he was written in the movie. I do like the extended scenes though with him and his brother and I kinda get why he was written as he was in The Two Towers but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. I still identify strongly with Faramir. My father has always been horrible towards me. Awful man. Wish I’d had a big brother to look up to. There has never been anyone to take my side in my family. I have been alone all my life.
