I agree (esp. for this price point), though it's usual to have the mould show fine details either way. In my experience, the prototype images are an excuse for scale figs differing, but nendos rarely change. Here's a prototype pic vs mine irl (sorry for gatcha lol) with a similarly detail costume.

If you go the Gundam marker route, be sure to dab some of it on paper and use a brush to paint from there. The markers flow VERY freely and while metallic paints can still be wiped off with some acrylic thinner, metal power loves to stay behind. Isopropyl alcohol or acetone will wipe away too much!!
