I read a lot. Sometimes I try to write. I crochet eldritch horrors. I've tried many crafts and art types and enthusiastically suck at most of them. Brit in the US. ¿Mature? Engineering student. Museum geek.

Raphael Studies of Two Male Nudes (Probably for the Naval Battle of Ostia, Stanza dellIncendio), 1515 Red chalk over preliminary stylus underdrawing, on paper Albertine, Vienma (17875 This is the only sheet of life drawings by Raphael that may be connected to the Naval Battle of Ostia fresco in the Stanza dell'Incendio (completed by his workshop). The drawing renders two standing male nudes of muscular anatomy with such virtuosic handling of the red chalk that it suggests a demonstration piece, rather than a functional working drawing. It was once owned by the grear German painter and printmaker Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). A handwritten note by Dürer on the right reads (in translation), "1515. Raphael of Urbino, who was so highly esteemed by the Pope, made this drawing of these naked men, and sent it to Albrecht Dürer in Nuremberg, to show him his hand.
Raphael This sheet appears to have been among a group of drawings Raphael sent to the renowned German artist Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). While Raphael was relying on his assistants to execute paintings, he seems to have chosen to share his best drawings as a demonstration of his draftsmanship. The vigorous technique here, with heightened light effects, sculptural modeling on the figures, and contrasts of suggestive sketchiness, is comparable to Raphael's drawings for the Sistine Chapel tapestries. The full moon is in the centre of a square picture. It is partly covered by some of the branches of a large evergreen tree coming in from the right. The tree is red lit. On the left, looking comparatively small and further away are a few mildly blue lit trees, and a large blocky building. Perspective makes the building look much smaller than the red lit tree, though larger than the blue lit ones. Silhouettes of some unlit trees are visible to the left. There is a thick power line around two thirds of the way up the picture, dissapearing behind the red tree. I worry that when the tree attacks it may get tangled in the cord and potentially catch fire.
