Research assistant and editor. And, long ago, I won some neat awards while writing for Dr. Ed Madison, Erik Bender, and Miranda Anderson. I usually post about real-world locations and objects that offer inspiration for games and stories.

This image is by Berengar von Ow (IG: beringerus.astrophotography). A Gothic Revival castle built in 1846 upon the foundations of a much older fortress stands upon a forest-draped mountain with the full moon rising in the background, seeming to emerge from the castle.
This image is credited to David Goddard. A sprawling medieval castle ruin sits at the edge of a heavily forested hill. The ground before it is cut and manicured, and a road leads to a paved area near a raised section that appears to have once acted as a fortification. While the ruins look medieval, the castle is actually a Gothic Revival architectural ruin from the 19th century.
This drone video is by the OTUS group (IG: https://www.instagram.com/p/Datm-NRuF2C/). A tornado slowly spins across a wide, flat lake set in relatlively level fields of green. The spray from the wind creates a noticable rainbow.

This image is credited to Gio & Marty, who are travel bloggers (IG: https://www.instagram.com/rockntravels/). A medieval fortress stands on the great spur of rock rising from the base of a heavily wooded mountain. The beige walls of the fort are worn by weather and time.
This image is by photographer Tomasz Szatewicz. It depicts a Scottish fortified manor on a tidal island. An old arched bridge of ashlar leads to the island from the shore. It is winter and white, and the full moon hovers above the water at twilight. Both the moon and the lavender of nightfall touch the rippling surface.
This image is credited to Alexxx1979. A massive domed building rises from what could be equated as a brutalists architectural body, but the architectural style of the structure predates brutalism by centuries. At each corner of its squat yet towering body are beautiful towers.
This image is credited to Gabriel Loire. A metal spiral staircase with rodded guardrails rises in an empty cylindrical tower. The walls of the tower are stained-glass windows, and the acoustics create a specific sound engineered by the artist.
This image is by Kevin Krüger. Twilight darkens the sky with only shreds of clouds in the lower right frame. A distinct Northern European knot crisscrossed the ground toward a towering structure, dark and gray. It has the lines and edges of brutalist architecture. From the front, it appears as a simple clock tower with stained-glass windows touching its crown, a sharply peaked roof. The building is actually quite long, as it holds services for the religious in rows and rows of wooden benches.

This image is by Geoff the Overweight Photographer (his moniker). The photo shows a gentle U-shaped dirt road between embankments. The boughs of autumn-touched trees hang over the edges to form an arch over the road. The forest floor and path are covered in the orange of fallen leaves.
This video is credited to Mei Mei (IG: mei_mei_0946). The video shows a cliff face in China. Built atop a thin ledge 50 meters from the ground is an ancient temple, several centuries old. A number of thin, wooden supports can be seen bracing the lip of the buildings against the cliff, and slender walkways connect several structures.

The supports of the dome come down to touch between arches that are part of the grand architecture of the building. At least three floors can be discerned from the photo. At the center of the space, suspended, is a massive glass platform colored like a rainbow.

A centuries-old Italian church and its connected buildings fill a narrow ridge about two-thirds up the way of a tall cliff of Mount Baldo in Italy. The lights of the complex splash illumination against the hard stone. The valley the church complex looms over fills with twilight fog, sweeping through the dark forest below.

This image is by Chaz Shand Photography. A rocky tidal flat is surrounded by modest but sheer cliffs. A few trees grow atop the greenery at the pinnacle of the cliffs, and moss has begun to creep down the rocks. But what is most notable is a beautiful arched door-shaped hole in the cliffs, not far from a larger hole in the rock that leads to the sea.

The room itself contains an atrium and arched beams holding up an intricate skylight. The woodwork all along the stairwell, doorframes, and balconies is exceedingly detailed.

On the left side of the foreground is a vineyard, one of the few flat areas near the great river's shore. The sky is a beautiful lavender, and lightning strikes across it, which echoes the same purple hue.
