I’m tracking a robin in flight horizontally until it lands on a branch about 40-50ft away from me. It’s chirping, and I remark “she’s so mad at me” before moving and panning over to a bird’s nest in a large bonsai tree — probably about 2 feet tall and a foot across with its branches and leaves — right in front of me. The nest sits right in the middle on a fork, and I bring the camera up and zoom in on a very young chick laying in it. It’s pretty much bald, and is sort of twitching a bit with its wing. Nothing’s wrong with it; it’s just very newly hatched. Then, I move the camera up to peer through the leaves straight back to the mother robin, who has moved down to perch on a kids’ climbing structure, cocking her head sideways as she stares at me.
