A large golden German Shepherd mix named Leo is laying on the floor calmly watching two tabby foster kittens playing with a wand toy I dropped in front of them. Both kittens are inches away from Leo’s big, black shepherd nose, and both feel perfectly safe in his company. The baby tabbies have raised, happy tales and are definitely not done playing so Leo is being patient as he knows everyone gets fed soon, including him. His walk and favorite treats will soon follow.

They were great friends. Here is one reason why. What is your favourite memory of Bea? "She took care of me the Thanksgiving my mother died, the first year of Maude. It was unexpected. My mother was young and I was young. I went back to Oklahoma for the funeral and I was devastated. When I came back to California, I was grieving so. I heard from Bea and she said, "I'm having Thanksgiving dinner and you come over here immediately." I went over to her home in Santa Monica and she put me to bed, and tucked me in and brought me dinner. She calmed me down and I felt safe for the first time. You don't forget things like that."

Day 3: she liked the donut bed and the cave we made for her out of a table and small blanket. The photo shows her in the bed and looking out. She is half in darkness and her gold eyes are wide and she is taking sounds and movement. Her big brother preferred to hang out in the large cat carrier we put down for him. The two often slept together inside it at night for emotional comfort.
A very large and fluffy Tuxedo male cat is sitting in a carrier which has the top lid open. He is sitting on a comfy white blanket with thin black stripes. Joey is ten and considered a senior cat. He will be harder to place because of his age. He was raised with love by his mom. He is an indoor cat and lived a quiet home so he is shy with strangers. He is also very sweet and adores being brushed. He will make a wonderful lap cat and could double as a heavy blanket on cold nights.

She is hiding in her carrier in our foster room (of course) and clinging to her ten year old cat friend and roommate, Big Joey, for comfort. We’re working with them, both before we decide if they need a new home separately or together. If will be much harder to place Joey - a gorgeous, long haired Main Coon - as he is a senior cat. I’m not sure if they are pair bonded or just amiable roommates. We’ll see. Either way, we have their backs.
