Rain, everywhere, all weekend. Also it's cold.

The other area of growth has been with very young cricket. Our Director of Cricket Olly Birts (1st team captain) now runs Friday night sessions for U5s and U6s, filled mainly with state school pupils and with 40% of attendees being girls. Parents come down, have a barbecue, and watch their kids play. It’s become a great community event.

Dear ECB, I was very disappointed to read today that you are barring trans women and girls from playing cricket. Here are the reasons why this is the wrong decision: 1) “Biological sex” is not a binary. As anyone with biology training above GSCE level will be able to explain, there are many aspects which feed into the determination of sex, including physical characteristics, chromosomes, genes, hormones and hormone receptors. Around 1% of all babies are born intersex in some way, and many of those people will never know that e.g. their chromosomes don’t match their external genitalia, or only find out as an adult experiencing fertility issues. The idea that everyone can be clearly split into Male or Female even physiologically, let alone mentally, is biologically ignorant. (I have a PhD in biosciences but frankly this stuff is secondary-school-level biology.) 2) As a (cis) woman who enjoys cricket, I know that, despite being a game played by women in its earliest phase…
