The title of the event is: Taiwan Studies Initiative: Progressive Family Law as an Anticolonial Strategy Date: August 28th Time: 1:30 pm ET Location: GISB 2067 The text of the flyer reads: This talk, based on Dr. Chen’s book project, challenges conventional narratives by examining Japan-ruled Taiwan (1895–1945), arguing that progressive family law can function as a mode of anti-colonial resistance. The project concludes that family law need not be reactionary, a contention underscored by Taiwan’s 2019 legalization of same-sex marriage, which embodies a still vibrant and enduring progressive nationalism.

Hailing mainly from Chin State in western Burma, the Indianapolis Chin community possesses profound linguistic diversity. The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia is offering an opportunity for P-12 educators to learn about language diversity and endangerment, diaspora communities, and how these issues affect Indiana’s Chin community.
