LEERING EYES Similar to the evil eye, leering eyes are superstitious symbols used more specifically to mark and protect doorways and thresholds in various cultures of looming. They are painted, carved or burned onto doors, gates and archways, and are thought of similar to gargoyles: an entity that scares off evil spirits or magic. Leering eyes with a pointed middle loop are used by the whiskered to mark the location of blinks: hidden portals into the snickelways. This is likely where the symbol originated from, as the shape of blinks closely resemble leering eyes.
