Lalah and Char. I mentioned this earlier, but Char already has a scar in this novel, and you can see it here, where he's holding his mask while walking over to the windowsill where Lalah is seated. There are screenprints used here for Lalah's dress, the shadows on her face, and the interior of the room she's in. Char is shaded with hatching only, as is the rest of the background behind him. He looks happy, she looks serene. I don't have any idea who illustrated these first editions, but if you know, please tell me! They're not credited in the front or back of the book, that I can tell. Apologies for my fingers in the shot.

SNES era JRPGs are fun, but I have a complaint about the formula. I think only the "Mother" series really gets the "you can never go home" trope right. Usually, the hero is cast out of his village, or it's destroyed in front of him, and the will to protect what remains is tied up in the legendary sword he carries. The sword is compensation for his loss. It's a symbol of loss, love, and resolve. But really, any normal child will want to return to their hometown more than they'll want a sword and a destiny. I understand that swords and destinies are more entertaining for the real life child holding the controller, but that's only because that child has a home to return to. The home where they're holding the controller.

Kamille is interested in learning about his seniors' former exploits, Char is interested in trying once again to convince Amuro to join them in space, and Amuro is mostly interested in dodging uncomfortable conversations and out-drinking Char Aznable. The scene is set sometime before episode 35, "Storm over Kilimanjaro," although with the lightest of actual checks for series continuity.

I grew up looking at other people's character shrines and fan sites and fanfiction thinking, "These people like things in a way I can't like things. It's not that there's something lacking in me, but we're just different people. I'll probably never feel those things, and that's okay." Be sure to tell Bright exactly that, in exactly those words, when you guys go back to space.” Kamille was amazed. He accidentally said the first thing that came to mind. “…Don’t take this the wrong way, but I didn’t know you could smile until just now.” “What?” Amuro was sure he smiled, occasionally.
