Table 2 shows multivariable logistic regression for pulmonary complication risk after blunt chest trauma. SSRF groups (Early, Intermediate, Late) consistently show significantly reduced risk (OR < 1, P <.001) compared to Nonoperative Management (NOM) across all rib fracture types, flail chest, and no flail chest. Early SSRF has the lowest ORs.
JAMA Surgery analysis of California Hospital Operating Rooms 2014-2022. Problem: Outdated OR financial benchmarks. Data from 278 hospitals, 9 fiscal years. FY2022 results: Cost $57/min, Charge $295/min, Revenue $66/min. Cost increased 54% since FY2014. Measures are not interchangeable.
Figure 2 shows two cumulative incidence graphs and tables from the NRG Oncology/NSABP B-35 Trial. Graph A displays ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR), showing higher incidence for margin width <1mm (5.6%) vs ≄1mm (4.0%). Graph B shows all breast cancer events, with higher incidence for margin width <2mm (5.3%) vs ≄2mm (3.8%) over 10 years.

RCT from JAMA Surgery: 314 rectal cancer patients randomized to Low IMA (4.9% anastomotic leakage) vs High IMA ligation (6.0% leakage). The difference in leakage rate was not statistically significant. Median age 64. Study conducted in 7 South Korean hospitals.

JAMA Surgery RCT: Prevention of parastomal hernia in 101 rectal adenocarcinoma patients (62M, 39W, avg 71.2y). Mesh vs No Mesh intervention. 3-year PSH incidence: Mesh group 57%, Control group 82%. Difference: -25%. Mesh significantly reduced parastomal hernia risk.
Figure 2 shows a table and forest plot of CCI subgroup analyses. Overall, enteral had a lower CCI (mean diff -10.42, P<.001). Significant benefits for enteral seen in Age >65y, Diabetes (yes), BD (yes), and NRS >3. Oral vs enteral CCI means & 95% CIs are also displayed.
JAMA Surgery RCT: Small vs Large Bites for abdominal incision closure. 559 patients from 10 Dutch hospitals. Small-bites technique led to lower incisional hernia incidence (34% vs 49% for large bites) over 13 years, with a survival probability graph showing better outcomes for small bites.
