An open letter to ‘reviewers’ and anyone else who happens to be passing: This year, I bring two solo-shows to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time. I have worked hard trying to make them the shows that I wanted to do, and that also, hopefully, make like-minded white middle-class people laugh. With this in mind, I would ask the so-called ‘reviewers’, who for some bizarre reason find themselves to be the self-appointed trend-setters and taste-gurus of Edinburgh, to please only judge my shows on the quality of the content and NOT on how incredibly handsome I am. I am sick and tired of poring my heart into a potentially bankrupting month long run of experimental comedy art, to find that the only so-called ‘reviews’ I get barely even mention the ground-breaking theme or excellent laugh/time ratio. The only ‘structure’ that seems to concern them is my flawless bone structure. And this has to stop. It is not fair for you to judge me as a piece of beautiful meat. There is more to me than that. So much more. And if you ever stopped gawping at my smoking physique and absent-mindedly wondering what was going on underneath my t-shirt, maybe you’d find out what that much more actually is. So I issue this challenge to all so-called ‘reviewers’: Wanna review my show? FINE. Review the damn show. See if I care. But leave my devastating good looks out of it.
