I love an issue like this. I open a thing up and there's one component staring at me with a "Yup. It was me. I don't care and I'll do it again!", aspect about it.

just bridge the bad chip and plug it back in nothing bad could possibly happen

Managed to remove the very obviously broken LED and just bridged the pads. Should probably be good for a while. It lights up again for now, at least. (Replacing the LED with a new one would of course have been the proper way to fix it.)
