The monster holds a party of the kiln's rivals, ensnaring them as it burns with the flames of the undermind. The scene takes place in a ruined temple, with a destroyed wall giving a peek of the pine forest beyond. The kiln is a man wearing a toga-adjacent robe, a long necklace with several other talismans attached, a smaller choker, and a headpiece made of sticks that resemble antlers. After accidentally helping to release the spirit of the house's former owner, Aldous Mcmartin, Olive develops a plan to banish the shadowy spirit once and for all. She sets up a circle of mirrors, lures him into it, and uses them to amplify the light from a camping flashlight to blow him away.
While investigating the secrets of the house, Olive has ventured into a painting depicting the street the house is on, from roughly 100 years ago. As she walks through it, former residents of the neighborhood come out of their houses, warning Olive that they've been trapped in this painting, and the same couod happen to her if she stays in there too long.
While traversing a picture of a lake at sunset, Olive finds and puts on a locket she finds under the lake's water. This causes Horatio, a talking cat belonging to the magical house's former owner, to become nervous. Some secrets are best left undiscovered...
Olive has discovered a pair of magical spectacles that allow her to travel into the paintings that line the house's halls, this is her first time entering them. There's a stark transition from the bright, warm hallway to the dark forest painting.
The young girl from the cover & our protagonist, olive dunwoody, walks down the hall of the house her parents are considering buying. As she's looking around, she gets the uneasy feeling the house isn't thrilled to be changing owners.

the draw steel ability "the green within, the green without." main point here is that it does good single target damage AND you can move a creature afterwards (up to like. 20 squares away from you if you position it right)
