Terence Everitt, via Facebook: Over the last 7 years, it has been the honor of my life to serve in the North Carolina General Assembly - first in the State House, and most recently representing Senate District 18 and the people of Wake and Granville Counties. In January, I began working at the North Carolina Voter Protection Alliance where we are working every day to protect the right to vote in North Carolina and ensure fair elections in our state. Since returning to the legislative session, it has become clear that defending our democracy requires my focus and dedication. The Republican majorities in our legislature are hell-bent on assaulting our democracy, suppressing voting rights, and restricting North Carolinians access to the ballot box. This is a fight we must win, and I am determined to defend our state’s democracy at all costs. For that reason, in consultation with my family and closest advisors, I have made the difficult decision to resign from the North Carolina Senate and will withdraw my name from the 2026 General Election ballot. I have immense gratitude for everyone who has been on this journey with me since 2016. I want to sincerely thank all my constituents for the trust you’ve placed in me to represent you and your family. While my time in elected office has come to an end, I understand the pivotal moment we face in North Carolina’s history. I believe in our state and I look forward to continuing to fight for it with everything I have.

The question in my mind is whether [Incumbent Attorney General] Jeff Jackson is going to run for reelection or run against [Senator Ted] Budd. If he doesn’t run for Senate, former State Treasurer and current Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell will probably run against Budd. Former Congressman and soon to be Wake County DA Wiley Nickel will probably run to take Jackson’s seat at AG at sometime in the future, and he is probably on the short list for a future NC governor.

In a just world, Kamala Harris would be celebrating her first year as President today. And the following ten things would be true: 1: Renee Good, thousands of Gazans, and at least 14 million recipients of food assistance from USAID would still be alive. 2: There would be no use of tariffs as a tool of retaliation making things more expensive for innocent Americans. 3: Cost of living would be controlled and not have gotten worse than abandoning Bidenomics. 4: The world, outside certain pockets of Venezuela and South Florida, would be sleeping more soundly. 5: The rising crisis in Cuba would've been diplomatically handled rather than aiming for something to happen there (and don't think that Rubio and He won't not do anything there). 6: ICE wouldn't have been turned into an extra military branch to terrorize innocent people. 7: Gaza would've been nipped in the bud because Kamala would've gotten some sort of cease fire put in place. 8: The US wouldn't have alienated its allies. 9: Americans would be happier and healthier and things would actually get fixed. 10: We wouldn't have to worry about a head of government falling worse into dementia than the person prior and would've had a president who was relatively youthful.
