this looks great for pittsburgh, and it is better than most places. i will say that so much of the housing stock in Pittsburgh is very old and poor quality, so there are lots of houses on the market for literally $20k. you do not want anyone to live in these houses. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I recently saw a stat that Providence has an even higher % of houses built before 19xx (I forget the exact year, but you get the point). That said I think many of our old houses are pretty robust; but they probably do come with all kinds of weird hidden maintenance costs.
