Advice needed Join Location: Colorado, USA.Just got back to my place near Fort Collins after a week on the road and I am losing my mind. My neighbor took it upon himself to hire a "landscaping" crew (probably just some guys with a chainsaw) to remove a mature Japanese Maple that was fully on my property. His excuse? He said the needles and leaves were messing with his "mountain view" and "fire mitigation" efforts. The tree was roughly 40 years old and was the centerpiece of my yard. I called an arborist immediately. He told me that since this is Colorado and the tree was that established and healthy, the replacement value is astronomical. He is drafting a formal appraisal but hinted that we are looking at 20k to 25k easy just for the tree, let alone the logistics of getting a crane into my backyard. I know Colorado has statutes regarding timber trespass. My lawyer already mentioned treble damages because the guy admitted he did it on purpose while I wasnt home to stop him. The neighbor had the gall to offer me a couple hundred bucks for "the inconvenience" and told me to just buy a couple of saplings at a local nursery. I refused to take his money and told him to wait for the process server. Has anyone dealt with treble damages in CO specifically for ornamental trees ? This guy basically nuked my property value for his porch view and I am not planning on letting this go. I feel like a jerk for wanting to sue my neighbor into bankruptcy but the sheer entitlement is what gets me.
One final thought... zoom out far enough, and the history of the digital future looks something like this: First, Silicon Valley built hardware that got smaller and faster and cheaper and better. Then, Silicon Valley built software that became the mediating layer of the global economy. And then, the finance industry ate the software industry. Every tech company today is a finance company. Software ate the world, and then finance ate software, and now here we are. It isn't quite as simple as "after the Great Financial Crisis, all the finance guys moved to Silicon Valley so they could keep doing the same bullshit without all the regulatory scrutiny." But that's a close-enough approximation of recent history.

The GOP's "Save America Act" (SB 1383): 1. States that all states "Shall" submit their voter registration lists to the DHS's "SAVE" voter purge program, which has error rates as high as 14% & relies on data from SSA whose databases were mishandled by DOGE per: (A) the SSA itself, (B) a whistleblower report by the SSA's former Chief Data Officer, & (C) a new whistleblower report, which alleges that a former DOGE member claimed to have kept his SSA computer & credentials providing "God level" access to SSA systems. (See also FN 1.) 2. Imposes no penalty for erroneous purges, but subjects officials to citizen suits & potential prison time for registering a single voter without correct documentation-even if the voter is a citizen. (Note: The GOP has wrongly purged thousands of voters in past elections. 3. Requires that everyone registering to vote or changing their registration (or re-registering after a faulty voter purge or moving) prove their citizenship in person with approved documentation, such as a U.S. passport (which is expensive). 4. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the 'hero' term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thr you.

World War II and beyond (edit] Prior to the onset of World War II, Max von Laue and James Franck had sent their gold Nobel Prize medals to Denmark to keep them from being confiscated by the Nazis. After the Nazi invasion of Denmark this placed them in danger; it was illegal at the time to send gold out of Germany, and were it discovered that Laue and Franck had done so, they could have faced prosecution. To prevent this, de Hevesy concealed the medals by dissolving them in aqua regia and placing the resulting solution on a shelf in his laboratory at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. After the war, he returned to find the solution undisturbed and precipitated the gold out of the acid.
