It is a specific subculture under the broader umbrella of railway enthusiasts, known as densha otaku (電車オタク). I’m none of these, but I fancy a train photo here and there.

In America they are called train photographers.
I love train photos and have loved train photos since I was a wee lad ... my grandfather worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and he always had those UP calendars that featured some dang fine photography ... grandfather was an asshole but the calendars were spot on ... 🤔
In England and a somewhat lesser extent in Ireland. They are known as Train Spotters. Retired Irish Rail Maintenance Craftsman. 🇮🇪🇪🇺
