When Driver posted on Facebook condemning the spending plan, Potter commented, "Not sure what your interest is in school finance suddenly." He questioned why the district shouldn't budget on unpromised state funding while assuming tax increment financing dollars, which rely on City Hall. "Don't play with me," Driver shot back before challenging Potter to a public debate. "Otherwise, stay TF off my page with these rude (expletive) comments. You have caused immense harm to Black and Brown low wage workers at CPS." After Driver followed up with "The privilege here needs to be checked," Potter responded: "I see I hit a nerve."

The Chicago Teachers Union, along with CTU-aligned board members, countered that assuming the new funds would force state leaders to confront the consequences of years of underfunding CPS, rather than requiring the district to absorb deeper cuts to classrooms on its own. Under the state's own Evidence-Based Funding formula - which aims to deliver equitable funding to districts based on student need — CPS is just 73% fully funded, down from 81% in 2024.
While Waterman [whose 12-year-old son is a student at St. Cajetan] feels the city’s speed camera system is trying to “cash in” on residents, a camera on 111th Street and Campbell would help keep children safe, he said. “That is like the main crossover area for a lot of families to get to Kennedy Park, to get to St. Cajetan,” he said.
