The deputy was investigating a man targeting children online, but misspelled the suspect’s username when requesting records. The error led to a Halifax man being arrested and convicted by mistake. AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who shot a Colombian man in Maine this week is an Army veteran who has struggled with serious mental health issues since early childhood and never should have been given a badge and gun to patrol American streets, several of his close relatives told The Associated Press. David Brouillette has a history of terrifying and violent behavior, according to those relatives. They accuse him of attacking women in his life over the years, and one shared a voicemail with the AP from last winter in which he told her that he thought someone should slit her throat. Brouillette’s troubling past further challenges how thoroughly the Department of Homeland Security has vetted recruits as it went on a hiring spree to help carry out President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

She said the immigrant told her they had been detained as the mother took her baby to a doctor to be treated for influenza. “When the woman arrived, she was screaming and crying and yelling, ‘My baby is already sick!’ ” she recalled. “ ‘I don’t want my baby to die!’ ”
ICE is a division of the Department of Homeland Security. Much like DHS itself, it was spawned as a response to 9/11 and the Global War on Terror. ICE was created in a national security context, blending immigration enforcement with counterterrorism culture, equipment, and mindset. What we are seeing in the United States is the rise of the warrior cop. Masked federal agents donning multicam and plate carriers, injected into civilian life with a GWOT mentality. This is no routine law enforcement. This is occupation-style policing. Up until recently, immigration enforcement was overwhelmingly a civil matter. Visa overstays, border crossings, and asylum claims were processed administratively, not treated as battlefield threats. Under the current administration, immigration is increasingly framed as criminality itself. So when the President says they are “going after criminals,” that definition quietly expands to include visa overstays, people in green card or asylum processing, and peaceful individuals caught in bureaucratic limbo. This framing becomes the justification for the police state. The Department of Homeland Security has now taken the position, via internal guidance, that entering homes without a judicial warrant using administrative authority is lawful. This is an assertion by fiat, not a principle recognized by the Constitution, statute, or the courts. The Fourth Amendment does not bend to agency memos. The militarization of domestic enforcement did not happen overnight. The surplus weapons, vehicles, and equipment from foreign wars were gradually brought home and distributed to federal agencies and police departments through long-standing programs that accelerated after 9/11. The tools of war have been normalized in civilian governance. Now those weapons, systems, and intelligence apparatuses are being used against immigrants and citizens alike....Abolish ICE. Reform the broken immigration system. Do not give the police state an inch.

We're getting at least 10 posts a day from Americans apologising, and saying things like they didn't vote for Trump or don't support his policies. To be blunt, none of that actually matters. You can say you're different from the rest of Americans, but to the rest of the world, that distinction doesn't exist. To us, your country is a single entity on the world stage, and it's threatening its allies. Think about how you view other countries. For example, Russian opposition doesn't change what Russia does, because that's their domestic politics. The same thing applies to the US too, except you had the power to choose your president, and you may still have it. So instead of coming here nonstop to apologise on behalf of your country for your constant need for sympathy, focus on actually changing something while you still can.
