the second of 4 parts of my MS paint review of Mass Effect 1. Now formatted into comic sans and covering the Bring Down the Sky DLC. We gave the DLC a stand alone score of 3/10, noting that it carries over basically every complaint I have about the base game while still at least trying to add something in with a closer eye to presentation, utilizing pre-rendered cutscenes and 1 (of 4) of the interior locations having a unique design, even if it isn't an interesting one. We also touch briefly on the Batarians, a race who have built their entire Cultural identity on the enslavement and degradation of other species, which kind of says a lot about where I know the series is going in the next 2 games. Big Woof. anyway, its over in 45 minutes, doesn't overstay it's welcome, and I get to remove yet more challenge from the base game by getting an Omni-Tool that converts Tali into a spell slinging Tech-God. Wahoo. 3/10
A MS Paint review of the first 12 hours of Mass Effect 1 from someone playing through it for the first time in 2026. It's covering the Legendary Collection version of the game, which is supposedly packed with QOL changes and updates which makes me weep for the poor souls who played this game on launch, and helps to emphasis my bafflement at how ME2 even managed to see the light of day.

Bad Buggy Deck List
Continuing on with my media thread, we getting a little out of order here and talking about Control's 2nd and last DLC episode, the AWE or Alan Wake Event (Give Sam Lake all of the money for Control 2, AW3 and Quantum Breakers (Don't own that copyright, do you Microsoft? You fuckin hacks) Anyway, Control remains a game of two minds about it's combat, so I'm not going to get too deep into the weeds on that one in the alt text. I do like that they don't delve too deep into needing another puzzle collectible like the Maneki-Neko from The Foundation (Again, we'll get there) but I do like just how much flavour Investigations, as a Department, adds to the general world feel and application of the Bureau's general Ethos on the outside world, How they interact with the legal system as well as how they operate as HR within the house itself. Not very well, under Trench in his current state of course, but it's neat none the less, and I think that's what all Remedy Games do really well, even starting all the way back in Max Payne. For all that things can get silly, a bit self jerky in places and, in general maybe just a touch too huffing of their own brand, the world's themselves always feel alive. Solidly defined, with understandable rules, even as the characters shift, change and break, the world itself always feels present. An anchor in the storm, and that, I think is one of the most impressive magic tricks that Remedy effectively applies across all of their games (That I've played so far. Coming for you Tim E. Breaker.
A maniac attempts to squeeze what should be 4 or 5 pages of review on Remedy Entertainments Control into 2 paragraphs on a jpeg I can't wait for supernatural battering ram, Jesse Faden from control to be hooked up to a big old generator for, I guess eternity, once she starts leaking supernatural radiation all over the place like Northmoor. Holy shit, I didn't even have time to talk about Northmoor, holy shit man. So Northmoor isn't the first Director of the FBC, but he is the first Director to be head of the FBC headquartered at the Oldest House, and while exploring and coming to grips with the place, he was gifted a magic handgun by the supernatural entity(ies?) known as The Board. The power trip that gave him, fed into a few decades of him hoarding objects of power (again, sorry about the nouns, no time) and binding them to himself so that he would be able to wield their altered effects. Eventually he bound so many OOPs, that he basically became functionally immortal, but was also leaking just a whole Chernobyl's worth of radiation. His successor, and Jesse's immediate predecessor Trench, quote unquote "convinced" him to step down from the position, imprisoned him inside of a big fuck off fusion reactor, called the Northmoor Containment Sarcophagus, and now uses him as the Oldest House's main power supply because, and I FUCKING QUOTE, "Its the Directors Job to keep the lights on." God this game is good. I take back that 7, it's a 10 outta 10. Can't wait for Control 2 where Jesse uses Trench's hollowed out skull as a Hiss detector and or Vacuum.
