Jimin’s hand still rested motionless on his waist. "My alpha wanted it this way," Jimin replied softly. The music fell completely silent. A brief pause before the musicians launched into a new song. Jimin took a step back, his hand releasing Jungkook’s waist. Something flitted across his face—surprise at himself, perhaps. "Thank you, Jungkook," he said, and then he turned and walked back to the pack alphas, back to his pavilion where his parents were sitting, watching them with interest. Jungkook looked at his parents, the unease having fallen from their faces at least. Jungkook stood in the middle of the clearing. Hoseok wrapped his arms around him with a grin, spinning him around, but his whisper in his ear was worried. "Are you okay? Why are you making such a face? Did he say something upsetting?" Seokjin bowed somewhere amid enthusiastic applause, then starting to sing to the new melody. Other people flooded the clearing, dancing to the tune. Their laughter rang in his ears. Jimin's scent was fading, so close and now so distant. Jungkook wrapped his arms around Hoseok, pulling him close. He breathed in the soothing scent of azalea, the morning dew on grass. My alpha wanted it this way. Moon goddess, he pleaded, why does my heart sing?

Their eyes met for a brief moment before Jungkook turned his attention back to Yoongi. That was the problem lately—too many distractions. Too many thoughts about freckles and dragon eyes and the way Jimin had touched his face in the glow of the fire. “Focus,” Yoongi said sharply, and Jungkook realized he had lost his concentration again. “Sorry,” he muttered. Hoseok laughed, not unkindly. “Someone's distracted. I wonder why.” His knowing grin made Jungkook's ears burn.

"Why do you think they argue so much?" There's a soft, scuffling sound as Malfoy shifts his position to look over at the two patients. When he sits back, he's closer than he was before and Harry can feel the warmth of Malfoy's thigh against his calf. "That's your question?" He shrugs. "They're very similar. Both strong characters. Both stubborn. Intelligent. Different backgrounds, though. Perhaps they see each other as a threat." The words strike Harry somewhere painfully familiar, and he smiles. Continues to watch as Fyzal steps right into Marguerite's personal space. "Perhaps they like each other," he suggests. "Like pulling pigtails." For a moment, neither of them say anything until Malfoy breaks the silence with a dry cackle. "Is that how it works, Potter?" he asks, clearly most entertained by the idea. It doesn't take Harry long to realise exactly what he's implied, however accidentally, and that he isn't the only one drawing uncomfortable parallels.
Jimin wore old jeans that sat low on his hips, revealing his boxers. On his feet were mismatched socks. It was hard to tell if his sweater had shrunk in the washing machine or had been cropped. In those brief seconds, Jungkook noticed that the guide was dressed far too warmly for the season, given how heated up the house had become in the late summer. But that wasn't his business. Jungkook looked down at his clothed hands. They both seemed to be hiding as much skin as possible. A habit of their kind, especially when they weren't bonded. Jungkook let air escape his lungs at Jimin turned around and started gesticulating, walking inside the building, explaining to Jungkook where he could place his backpack, asking if he might want a tea (that they freshly brewed from mountain herbs after an old recipe of the village's eldest, something Jungkook might like), explaining every corner and every room of the facility and where he would be sleeping (the room next to Jimin, thank you very much, destiny).
Jungkook took a deep breath as he stood before the door. Grabbing his phone out of his pocket, he turned off the music. Closed his eyes behind his sunglasses. Always making sure to prepare well to meet new people, people he wasn't familiar with and therefore posed a threat. Started counting down, the way he had trained himself to do to calm down. He heard three heartbeats in that research facility. The clinging sound of someone washing the dishes, water dropping from an old tap, a radio playing K-pop. Jungkook bit his lips. He could do this. This would be a nice stay for some research, secluded from the bustle of a big city and with not many people around. They might find him odd because of his looks, but Jungkook was past shame and embarrassment. The bell's ring was a low sound, surprisingly pleasant to his protected ears. He heard footsteps approaching, a beating heart coming closer, the steady pulse of blood flow. As the door opened, Jungkook came face to face with a problem as big as the moon, no, Saturn. The man before him was a guide.
