Think the prices of games are high? The Sega games in this 1990 Sears Catalogue were $89.99 (with inflation $196 each). But you owned it! It was a physical thing you could hold in your hand! Not a digital download which could disappear.

there were less people who could potentially buy it. Now there are literal millions of gamers, but the games are almost as expensive and soon only "for rent". arrgh
