This contact field can be a URL which points to an ActivityPub Actor. Via traversal of ActivityPub AcivityStream objects, reporters are enabled to discover reporting endpoints. Researchers are also enabled to receive up to date events by following declared ActivityPub Actors. When a researcher finds a vulnerability, they can submit their evidence to an eNotary (could be self notarized). The eNotary attests validity of the vuln and then replys to ActivityPub threads to facilite communication of valid vuln to upstream. In the beginning, there is no transparency... There are just serial numbers, and sometimes they are not even globally unique.... nobody knows where the hardware that goes into the drone comes from, we don't know which fabs make the chips, and we don't know where the cobalt that is used to make the chips is coming from. Over time, supply chain actors who are committed to transparency, because they believe it's an important part of securing critical infrastructure, start choosing to sign statements about their part of the drone supply chain... These signed statements make their way into transparency services through commercial products that implement scitt APIs internally, but which might expose completely different (and possibly much better) APIs to their customers. Eventually a view of the supply chain emerges, for those for have been granted read access to one or more transparency services: [image: Screen Shot 2023-10-21 at 1.59.46 PM.png] Transparency services expose views of what they have seen as feeds, so that vendors who depend on each other for security can subscribe for updates that impact the quality of their product, as its ingredients and their suppliers change over time. When the cobalt starts coming in without a certificate of origin, the chip supply chain related vendors can decide, based on what they can see, what to do next.... feeds provide information to authorized parties, that is verifiable, they are an intelligence source, they enable policy and decision making. When the firmware starts being signed by a new sub contractor, the facility that flashes it can decide if they are ok with that. Consumers of cyber physical products won't have access to the full view of a supply chain, that would compromise vendor competition, and overwhelm the consumer with information they can't use to make safe decisions.
