Slide 1/3 of a statement posted on Instagram early Wednesday morning, March 11th at 12:23 AM by Morgan Elise Johnson, publisher of The TRiiBE Chicago, a Black-owned newsroom. It reads: "Transparency has always been The TRiBE's practice, so I'm going to do what I would normally do and speak my peace. Ya'll ask too much of Black women leaders. Last week, myself and Tiffany Walden asked our editorial team to hold Tiffany down while she was on medical leave. Tiffany was preparing for an invasive surgery to remove uterine fibroids and endometriosis. Like most Black women, including myself, she has been suffering with symptoms of this condition for years. Thankfully, the surgery, which took place yesterday, was successful and she's in recovery. Before Tiffany went on leave, she laid out coverage plans with clear instructions to our team. However, when Tiffany signed off for a couple days, a TRiBE employee proceeded to get press credentials to a corporate event at a private facility for herself and a non-TRiBE employee without our approval or knowledge. A department head for this corporate partner reached out to me directly on Sunday, March 8 to confirm that this press access was authorized. When I told them that we did not authorize a coverage plan, they removed all future press access for this TRiBE employee."
