Jonko @jonkode.su · Nov 30 Turns out her dump differed from the verified rev 0 Pokemon Green ROM by 10 bytes, pictured here. Apparently, these bytes are pointers to things in the encounter table -- they point to other pointers in the table in the bad dump, leading to garbage IDs and levels.

Pure coincidence that it happened to point to valid Pokemon IDs and levels and not a MissingNo. I was able to get some other Pokemon, and she also encountered weird stuff in Diglett's Tunnel! Anyway, she fixed those bytes and now is playing Green with the normal amount of bugs.
