Since October 2023, the U.S. has sent over $30 billion in weapons to the Israeli military. During this period, the Israeli military has systematically targeted Palestinians in Gaza, killing at least 65,000 people and starving and displacing millions. Now it’s escalating these assaults, massacring hundreds of Palestinians, putting Israeli hostages in danger, and flagrantly undermining the ceasefire. The Israeli military, together with settlers, have also accelerated ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, especially in Masafer Yatta, where entire Palestinian villages are being wiped off the map by Israeli government demolitions and settler pogroms. Yet our government continues to funnel weapons to Israel in violation of U.S. and international law — enabling this genocidal assault. Each life taken is an entire universe destroyed. In response, progressive leaders in Congress have introduced the Block the Bombs Act. But despite the fact that the Congressional Progressive Caucus has endorsed this bill, and 55 Democrats are already co-sponsoring, Rep. Mfume still has not signed on. The Block the Bombs Act is historic, standalone legislation that proactively challenges U.S. complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza by prohibiting the sale or transfer of some of the most lethal and commonly used U.S.-made weapons. This is the only way to end U.S. complicity in these atrocities, to save lives, and to create a pathway toward a just and durable peace for all. Working towards our shared safety means funding our communities — not sending bombs and weapons. Join us outside Rep. We take this as a victory in the fight against his conflation of anti-Zionism with antisemitism that is being used to target student activists, such as Mahmoud Khalil, and our right to free speech. Our work is just a small part of the nationwide outrage working class people are expressing at Schumer's actions, and we're proud to be amplifying those concerns so many people feel here in Baltimore. The Senator will be discussing his new book, "Antisemitism in America." Meanwhile, our town hall & rally will examine the crucial distinction between antisemitism and anti-Zionism, address Sen. Schumer's record of conflating the two, and show how this harms Jewish communities and our allies in the fight for a free Palestine.
