A man headed towards a lineup of blue trash bins is accosted by someone off-camera holding up a disposable cup. He decides to help the cup guy by opening the lid of the trash bin. The cup guy tosses the cup and misses, so the man holding up the lid tries to save it and ends up doing a series of impressive kicks that ultimately sends the cup flying over his shoulders and straight into the mouth of the bin. He is surprised that he pulled it off.
Writers who read a lot come to understand that their work is part of a dialogue between them and the authors they've read, and the future authors who will join in the conversation. Writers who don't read are delivering a monologue to an empty room.

Post: There's a thread going around mocking writers who "don't read very much" and I'm trying not to haul out my soap box but...this is ableist? Not everyone can read for pleasure (or indeed at all) and some of those people are writers.
