TBH I feel like San Diego is in a different category just because of coverage footprint. Is there a way to do a Top 10 based on coverage of the metro area or something? Probably too much work, but unless they really expand the actual rail, it isn't really a full transit network.

In the wake of Seattle Link's line 1 & 2 connection, ridership has surged 43% compared to this time last year, hitting a new record high! Link moved 4.8M passengers in May, breaking last month's record by nearly 150k. It's now the busiest US light rail system, beating SF Muni

Wow that's crazy b/c PATH seems to be doing everything it can to suppress ridership outside of peak commuting hours.
But, how do they compare to seven years ago, pre-COVID? By that metric BART is in trouble, which is why it's about to go bankrupt.
How does it look versus the pre-pandemic? Anecdotally on the yellow line it looks like ~40%.
Is SF up due to the new fare gates improving the experience?
