basically there's an original timeline we never see then there's a 'Great Intelligence Timeline' spawned off of the Eleventh Doctor defeating the Great Intelligence during the Snowmen, which leads to the Second Doctor's fights against it and the Third Doctor's era taking place in the 1980s and UNIT being defunded in 2020, and then there's also a 'Grand Serpent Timeline' where the Grand Serpent flees to 1958 and starts influencing events to cause UNIT to be formed earlier, in 1966 shortly after the War Machines, which leads to the Third Doctor's stories being in the 1970s, the Brigadier retiring in 1976, ultimately leading to the UNIT we see in Power of the Doctor/the Fifteenth Doctor era
