Behind him, an entire nation was waiting - a nation that, for decades, had barely been allowed to listen to the kind of music he made. This was Hungary, 1986. Still sealed off behind the Iron Curtain. Still living under communist rule, where Western songs didn't play on the radio - they traveled hand to hand, on cassette tapes worn thin from copying, shared in whispers between people who trusted each other enough to risk it. So when word broke that Queen was coming to Budapest, the reaction wasn't excitement. It was disbelief. Tickets ran between 160 and 300 forints. They vanished within two days. Families scraped together savings. Strangers traveled from towns most of them had never left, just for the chance to stand in the same field as a band they'd only ever heard through static and secrecy. Queen almost didn't make it there at all. Shows in Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union had already fallen apart before they could happen.
