A section on grammar from a German textbook, titled The case system: adjectives before the noun. The first paragraph reads: When used before a noun and following a definite or indefinite article, dieser, welcher, jeder or a possessive, an adjective has an ending. The system is quite simple. (I have highlighted that last sentence.) There follows half a page of different endings for adjectives depending on ten different combinations of gender, case, and the article, preposition or possessive preceding the adjective.
