Keith Henry @k17.dev · Feb 3 Trick question! The answer is neither! The fireplace is lightweight thermal bricks but comes apart like Jenga anyway, and the big structural looking 'joist' is actually 3× smaller ones just resting on the brick. Everything wobbles, nothing is load bearing.

Why any of this? Why put a massive fake joist in if there's no weight on it? If it was supposed to take the ceiling, how was that supposed to work when it's just resting on thermal bricks?
