A large tree with bare roots is perched creekside. The still, muddy brown waters reflect the many vivid greens of the canopy above. The dark places under the gnarly roots make you wonder who lives there. This is from the mill race side of White Clay Creek at the old Curtis Paper Mill site - Rt. 72, Newark, Delaware.

Cooch-Dayett Mills in Newark, Delaware. This is a historic grist and saw mill built in the 1830s. The corrugated metal towers are rusty and weathered. The main building is a colonial-style brick building with stone foundation. This mill is located just north of Cooch’s Bridge, the site of Delaware’s only “significant land battle” in the Revolutionary War.
Looking in to the sunset on 273 West in Newark, Delaware. My father worked at the (formerly FMC) plant on the horizon. The industrial dryers create large steam clouds 24/7 (not smoke), so we always called it “Dad’s cloud factory”.

Morning in Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Rapid 2hr study. I challenged myself to paint it entirely with filbert brushes, rather than my usual larger flat brush. View from behind the phragmites, looking east across the vast fields shortly after sunrise.
Evening sets in as the last bits of sunlight burn on the horizon. This is a stretch of I-95 South near the Philadelphia Airport.
“Second Dam” on the White Clay Creek in Newark, DE. This dam is scheduled for removal, which is bittersweet. I will be sad to see this dam go, but also excited to see the Creek restored, and to watch the Shad make a comeback.
