Once spent, it is estimated to save American drivers roughly $1,750 per year in fuel and maintenance per vehicle—meaning the transition would eventually "pay for itself" in consumer savings over approximately 15–20 years.
The Comparison: If you take the money used for one $4 million Patriot missile and invest it into a utility-scale solar farm instead: That solar farm would generate enough electricity to fully fuel 1,005 electric vehicles every single year. Since solar panels are typically warrantied for 25 years, that single investment would eventually provide over 25,000 "car-years" of fuel.
