Female house sparrow sitting on a branch enjoying the morning sun. Background is various colors of green leaves. The female finch has a brown and patterned chest and various shades of brown on the rest of her body.
This photo is focused on the head of the prairie dog. On the middle of his nose is a bug (maybe a fly?). The prairie dog has shades of brown fur and black/brown eyes. His ears can barely be seen. They are small, flat against his head and the same color as his fur. The green background is the blurred vegetation around the tunnel hole.
Three bright light purple flowers (daisy like) with dark blue/purple in the middle. A few sprinkles of rain drops are on the middle flower. The background is a pale blue with blurred plants.

The background is blurred dark green trees in the middle to upper section of the photo. The lower portion of the phot is blurred prairie grass - light brown and light green.

There are some beams of sunlight shining into the photo from the upper right corner. The background are tree filled hills with a blue sky. The foreground is a field of lighter green prairie grass.

It is slightly shade because of the nearby trees. There are branches sticking up out of the water. These are from trees that grew here long ago. The birds now enjoy the branches as perches. Unfortunately the bird were nowhere to be scene when I took this photo.
Background is a cloudless blue sky. The blue jay is surrounded by mulberry filled branches. The fruit is red. There are green leaves by each bunch of berries. This photo was taken mid-morning, making the blue sky extra bright. The blue jay is looking towards the sun shine.
Bright blue, cloudless sky in the background. Tall grasses at the bottom of the photo. Resting on top of a very small tree was a meadowlark. The bird has a yellow chest with a brown patch at his neck. This photo was taken from my car, so it is not the sharpest.
Lots of brown in this photo. The focus is on the sleeping goat in the middle of the picture. He is brownish/red. His nose is brown with white and brown freckled around his nose and mouth. He is resting his head on the feeder made of wood. There is hay next to (on the right) and by the goat. The ground is a light brown sand/dirt mix.

The eagles head is most of the photo. There are brown feathers mixed in with the white feathers. His eyes appear to be light brown. He is sitting amongst the branches of a tree. The leaves are the green in the photo. There is some of the wire fence showing lightly in the background of the photo. He was behind the fence, so I really had to play with the focus to get a clear photo.
Middle right of the photo is a black/gray/white cat, Oliver. He laying on a rug and is surrounded by toys our granddaughter had been playing with. A couple of his toys ar in the mix.
Photo is filled with green clover - only three leaf clover. Not a fourth one in the bunch! Morning sunshine highlights the green. There are subtle areas where some of the leaves are in the shade. These are growing in a flower pot on the porch. The stripe appearance is from the railing.
In the center of the photograph is a tortoise with red eyes. His head is darker green. He has bright red eyes. Only one of his eyes can be seen in this photo. He in a tunnel looking out. The blurred areas around the tortoise is the dirt area where the tunnel is built. Prairie dogs built the tunnels, but the box turtles use the space too.
Beautiful northern cardinal resting on a branch, surrounded by several more. Photo was taken early Spring so there are not a lot of leaves on the branches. The Northern Cardinal is in the middle of the photo, his bright red feathers slightly muted from the shade of the branches with some leaves. The background is a blue sky and blurred branches. There is also some light green from trees with some leaves.
Photo was taken at Wildlife Safari Park in Ashland Nebraska. While driving through the park, the antlers were visible above the tall grass. The antlers are in the middle of the photo, surrounded tall green grass. In the background is a shaded area with several trees. On hot days, the shaded area is where the elk will rest.
There are two Bison in the photo. With the lighting and their colors, they almost blend together. The larger bison is on the right of the photo and has a dark brown, almost black head. The smaller bison is on the left. Its horns are visible. They are surrounded by a green field of prairie grasses.
The prairie dog is standing on a rock above tunnels his family and him have built. He has his eyes closed. The background is blurred green grass. The prairie dog is light brown in color, which makes him blend in with his surroundings when he by one of the tunnels. I was glad he moved over by a patch of green, so I could get a decent picture of him.
Using a macro lens and looking down onto the bud, only the lines of the top of the bud are clear. The blurred green is from the rest of the plant. In the upper right of the photo there are touches of purple and yellow. These colors come from near-by flower pots.
Blue/gray background, bright deep pink color of the flowers. Focus is on the flower in the middle. The evening sunlight shone on this flower perfectly, placing the inside of the flower on stage. The sunlit area makes me think of my dad and son, both have passed away. My dad passed away a few years ago and my son passed away a few months ago. The spirit world seems to be telling me, they are together and happy.
Old barn on my Aunt and Uncle's farm. The red paint is almost gone. A good portion of the wood needs repairs or replaced. The roof is a metal roof, so newer than the other parts of the barn. Photo was taken in Summer a couple of years ago. Towards the bottom of the photo is green grass. on the right side of the photo is another, smaller building. This was used for storage.
Shades of orange - marigold. Evening sunlight spotlight on the center of the marigold. Pink/Purple are blurred in the background adding a hint of color.
The squirrel (we call in Frank) somehow has himself all scrunched into the oriole feeder. His head is in-between two orange halves and his nose is deep into the grape jelly. The feeder is hanging from a tree branch.

This provides a view of the back of the flower. There are black stripes on the left and right side of the photos. These are part of the deck where the flowers were (in a flower pot).
The background on this photo is blurred to draw attention to the top bloom of a salvia spike. The salvia has a variety of purples colors.

A male house finch is standing on a cup with of grape jelly. The male house finch has a bright red feathers on his head, throat and belly. His wings are various shades of browns with some white. The jelly cup is orange, but looks almost black because of the jelly.

In the middle of the photo the petals are leaning in towards each other, making the rounded shape of the iris. In the very middle is a small petal just beginning to grow.
Clear blue sky - not a cloud to be seen. The bird is a a European Starling. In this shot you can't see the speckled body and various colors on this bird, his yellow beak does stand out. The sun is shining to the left of this shot, which helps to get the lighting on the feathers.
In the middle of the photo is a brownish colored rabbit. His ears facing forward as he listens to the noise around him. He is surrounded by tall green grass. To get a better view of what is looking at him the rabbit stands on it's hind legs.
A squirrel is sitting on a chair holding onto a log of pressed corn. The chairs are black iron with colorful patterned cushions. We are getting a new fence, so the bird feeders and other feeding stations had to be moved. I put the metal ring that holds the pressed cord on the back of a chair until I found a different place for it. The squirrel seems quite happy having a soft place to sit while eating.
The leaves are really starting to come out now. The female northern cardinal is in the middle of the photograph resting on a branch surrounded by green. Her bright orange beak standout in the colors surrounding her.

A bald eagle is perched on a branch of a tree. It is a cloudy day so the color is a little darker. The background is blurred green leaves w/ gray sky. I'm particularly excited about this photo and the bald eagle being so close to my home because of it's meaning to me. My son passed away about a month ago. He loved eagles. When ever I was lucky enough to get a photo of an eagle, he was the one I would call to tell about the photo. I like to think this eagle is my son visiting me.
Blurred gray background. In the middle of the photo a red-breasted woodpecker is looking from behind the tree. His head and upper body can be seen. His red streak on the back of his head is also noticeable. There is some green in the photo as some of the trees are starting to get their leaves.
Blurred in the upper left corner of the photo is a squirrel happily eating some nuts from a tray. Two bluejays are up front on the right side of the photo. One is looking towards the camera. The other one is looking a way. They are standing close together, so it looks like the one bluejay is whispering to the other. Almost like they are planning something.

In the middle of the photo is a feeder with a green section where the birds get their food. Above the green is a clear tube there the feed is stored. This feeder only has two spots for the birds to get their food. On the left of the feeder is the red-winged black bird. He has a tiny bit of red on his wing closest to the feeder. The red doesn't really show until they are flying. On the right side of the feeder is a much smaller bird - a sparrow. The spare has brown markings and is various colors of brown. They are both looking off in the same direction - to the left of the photo. The background is a blurred wooden fence and a gray chainlink fence behind the wooden fence.
The left side of the photo has a European Starling - iridescent purplish-green feathers and a bright yellow beak - hanging on to a pole, looking towards a suet feeder. The suet feeder is in the upper right corner of the photo. The feeder looks like a log. The background has some blurred green and brown foliage. Spring greens are starting to show through.

His wings are dotted black and white. His head has horizontal stripes going from his beak to the back of his head. The orangish glow is from the sun just past sunrise.

I'm not sure what kind of squirrel he is, but he is sure entertaining to watch! The brown/gray squirrel is sitting on a branch with his back to the tree. The tree is on the left side of the photo. The squirrel is holding a peanut tightly in his claws while he is eating it. You might have to zoom the photo to get a good look at the peanut.
This male house sparrow showing his beautiful brown, black and gray colors. Down is back, wings and into his tail are subtle stripes of the many colors in this sparrow. He is on one of the many leafless branches in a tree by my yard.
The geese are about in the middle of the photo. Photo was taken from a distance. The geese looked like they were in a world all their own - just happy to be together.
Female Northern Cardinal with brown and red feathers. The sunlight is shining from the left side of the picture. The background is the leafless bushes. She has a bit of food in her beak.
There are two geese trying to take off flying. They have their wings out and look as if they are running on water. Two other geese are swimming along the water towards the geese trying to fly. It looks like there might be an accident of the geese don't look out. The water is blue/gray. The background in the upper part of the photo is very blurry, almost looks like a beach.
The bird in the center of the photo is an American Goldfinch. I believe it is a male, not yet in mating season. During mating season the American Goldfinch will have bright yellow feathers with a wide black stripe on the top of its head. This bird is starting to get the brighter yellow feathers. The branches are leafless, anxiously waiting for Spring when the leaves are back. The brown background is due to a combination of shade, evening sun and a field with wheat colored weeds.
Male Northern Cardinal peeking around the corner of the bird feeder. Bright red feathers on full display. Kind of a portrait photo of the bird. This is an extremely cropped photo. I am happily surprised with how it turned out.
Male downy woodpecker - his red bit of feathers on his head is barely noticeable. The female does not have red feathers at all. This bird is slightly bigger than a sparrow. He has a few black and white stripes on his head. One of the black stripes covered his eyes, almost looks like he is wearing a mask. His back feathers and wings are black with whit dots. Tail feathers are black and white. The background is the clear blue day in the afternoon.
Background is pale blue. The foreground has the leafless branches. There are four male house sparrows lined up on a couple branches. The birds are various colors of brown. They have a cheerful song and are very busy birds. Fun to listen to them and watch their antics.
Bright red male Northern Cardinal is near middle of the photo. He is sitting amongst leafless branches. The branches do have buds on them, waiting for the warmth of spring to expose the leaves. The blue/gray sky is the background.
Background is grays and brown from the branches of the leafless trees. The sky was slightly overcast at the time of this photo today. The American Robin is sitting on a very thin branch. His orange chest feathers stand out in the other muted colors. His head is mostly black with a yellowish black (with a black tip) and a white circle around its eyes. His feathers on his wings are gray and brown with some black mixed in.
The dark-eyed Junco is sitting on a branch of a bush. He is perched on the right side of the photo. His white feathers on his chest stand out. The dark brown/black feathers cover the rest of his body. He has small black eyes and a light colored beak. The background of this photo are the other branches of the bush, blurred. The bright blue sky is showing as a backdrop to the branches.
The starling is the bit of black spot in the upper middle area of the photo. The backdrop is a lake with small movement in the water. This is a style of photography is called high-key photography. It is intended to be bright and minimalistic. Photos are taken with the histogram favoring the right side. This photo was edited to look this way. I wanted to get the feel for the look (and the histogram) before trying it out in the field.
