One of the worst parts of being a recovering people pleaser is realizing that I gave all my best energy to the wrong people. Toxic ex-friends probably remember me as a giver (or at least they DID until I reached my breaking point), but I didn't always have enough "giving" energy left for the people who didn't treat me like an emotional labor dispenser (or in some cases, a homework/cover letter machine). So I was needy and messy instead. The people who supported me during the darkest parts of my life were the ones who deserved my generosity the most, but it didn't always occur to me because other people's requests were louder. I wish I knew how to make it up to them, but some of them probably haven't even thought about me in years. Meanwhile, I somehow manage to think about everything and everyone from every era of my life all the time.

why is the pressure to "be the bigger person" always placed on the person who was wronged?
a hardest pill to swallow is that people will hurt you. dehumanize you in so many ways and not feel badly about it. they won't feel a thing actually. they'll move on with their day, their week, their life, happy as ever but there you are, crushed. loss of appetite. loss of sleep.

*sad news, incoming* This is a very hard post to make. The past month has been very stressful due to my cat Riley's health issues, which I didn't talk about very much on here because I had really hoped it wouldn't get this bad. But things quickly took a a turn for the worst over the weekend. He stopped responding to meds and he could barely walk. The emergency vet did an ultrasound and found a mass in his chest. She said that he most likely had cancer and that it was spreading quickly due to his FIV (a disease that affects the immune system. His mother also had it). Even if we'd caught it earlier, he probably wouldn't have responded to treatment. I wanted options. I wanted to do a biopsy. I wanted answers so badly. But they said that he might not even survive the procedure, and that they had seen this sort of thing before. He was in pain and he was unlikely to make it through the night, even in Intensive Care. I had to make the hardest decision I've ever had to make, and I allowed them to end his life humanely. I'm struggling to find the proper words right now, but anyone who knows me, knows how much this cat meant to me. Again, this is a hard post to make, but I want people to know what's going on. I figured something like this might happen someday, but never thought it would be so soon. R.I.P. Riley Bear. Six and a half years wasn't nearly enough. Say hi to Delia for me 💙
