KC ICE Free Statement on the Murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo Wednesday, July 8, 2026 On Tuesday, July 7th, at approximately 6:50AM, masked ICE agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Mr. Araujo was on his way to work with his brother and two other men when his vehicle was stopped by unmarked vehicles in an unnamed and unannounced law enforcement operation by ICE. We will dispense with the excuses given to us by this fascist government because we have already been here, time and again. The United States Federal Government is currently engaged in a campaign of ethnic cleansing on orders that go all the way to the top. Jingoist white supremacist hysteria for "remigration" has given license for a lawless reign of terror that has directly resulted in the murders of US citizens and immigrants alike. In nearly every case, the federal government has lied about the circumstances-smearing the names of the victims and their families-only for a litany of witness testimony and video evidence to reveal the extent of their lies.

3. Public Necessities Provision of public restrooms, including gender-neutral options, for high-traffic areas, including but not limited to: the River Market, NEKC, P&L, Westport, the Plaza, the Crossroads, and the wider Downtown area. Establishing a point of contact between the host committee and each of the major high traffic areas above so that updates and issues can be effectively communicated between the host committee and KC’s communities. 4. Care for the Unhoused The general safety of the unhoused population by de-prioritizing arrests and provisioning resources targeted at the unhoused population during and after the World Cup, especially for youth due to trafficking concerns. No encampment sweeps that would further displace and endanger the unhoused population at a time where they are already at risk from heat, trafficking, and further marginalization. No less than 50 additional beds will be made available by the start of the World Cup, a quantity that is already insufficient for current unhoused needs and likely to be seasonal at most in duration.
KCDSA STATEMENT From our Chapter’s Steering Committee 05/30/2026 The KCDSA joins with local organizations to send a letter of Demands to the Kansas City Host Committee. On May 30, the KCDSA joined with AIRR, Decarcerate KC, Boots on the Ground Midwest, Party for Socialism and Liberation Kansas City, and the Sunrise Movement KC to send a letter of demands to the Kansas City Host Committee in anticipation of the World Cup. These demands are multifaceted but simple. If Kansas City can afford to host the largest sports competition in the world, then the same city can provide additional care and guarantees for the citizens that make Kansas City a place worth living and celebrating. We hope the KC Host Committee will receive them with not only an open mind but with the seriousness that these demands deserve.
The Socialist response is to offer something better: a new constitutional order which places power in the hands of the working class rather than the owning class. The fight to construct a true democracy must be waged at every level of American society. As fascism reaches its tentacles into KC’s municipal government, the KCDSA will not accept the rulings of fascist courts. We continue to fight for a democratic society and the complete dismantling of the capitalist order. Councilmember Johnathan Duncan, who had voted in favor of repealing the ban, later expressed regret for his vote and reiterated his commitment to listen and learn from the broader queer community. While this repeal was a step backwards, we acknowledge his willingness to accept responsibility for this decision and we will continue to hold him and other allies in leadership accountable. This is a moment to course-correct and to use the power of City Council to wage an even greater fight against fascist consolidation of power.
Kansas City DSA Steering Committee Statement on KCMO City Council Vote to Repeal Ban on Conversion Therapy On May 21, in a 7-5 vote, the City Council of KCMO voted to repeal its ban on conversion therapy for children, a practice of using cruel, manipulative methods intended to force queer children to comply with the narrow views of gender and sexuality held by Christian nationalists. This practice has been widely condemned as tantamount to torture.
