Small demonstration of an app builder open-source project in which you can insert widgets in a canvas by drawing. In the demo you can see strokes being drawn using the mouse pointer in a window/canvas. The drawings are converted into widgets (checkboxes and labels) once they are finished. It can't be perceived in the gif, but the drawing is processed when the user releases the shift button. There's actually instructions in a corner of the screen that read "Hold shift while drawing; release to confirm". There's also a moment where a small dialog with extra configurations is shown, which allows the user to pick different behaviours and tolerance measures for the drawings. The behaviour setting is actually a toggle that enables a context menu to appear whenever a drawing is processed, showing the best matches for widgets represented by the given drawing, for acessibility purposes.

The video shows a scripted scene within a video game, which includes dialogue between two characters and some actions performed by them during and between the dialogue lines, like one of the characters walking out of the screen area. This is an open-source game called Bionic Blue made with Python and the pygame-ce library.

The fact the animated GIF aims to illustrated is the fact that the mouse doesn't need to touch the sockets in any of the interactions. Not when picking the connection from a nearby output socket, neither when delivering the new connection to a nearby input socket.
Animated image shows attempts of connecting sockets of visual nodes in a node editor called Nodezator. The mouse pointer doesn't even need to touch the sockets. It can drag a connection from a nearby socket and drop it next to another socket without having to touch them. When the connection is dragged, special visuals are used to help the action: the mouse turns into a baseball that is caught by a baseball glove whenever it gets near another socket. Although the image doesn't show, the connection is confirmed only after the user releases the mouse in order to prevent unwanted connections to be established. Additionally, the user can move the baseball freely, near and away from sockets, even after the baseball was caught by a baseball glove.
A generalist node editor called Nodezator. In this picture, it is being used along with the Pillow library to edit an image. More specifically, to perform a "soft_light" on a strawberry's basket image so its displays a blueish tint. In the picture, the final image is displayed with its first half untouched and the second half with the blueish tint.

Two nodes in a node editor are connected to each other with the mouse. The connection is represented by the nodes playing catch with a baseball. One node represents the Nodezator app sending/uploading a release and the other represents the PyPI website receiving the release for distribution. There's also text that tells users to use the command "pip install --upgrade nodezator" to install or upgrade their version.

In Nodezator (a generalist Python node editor): connection being established between nodes by dragging the cursor between sockets in different nodes. But the cursor doesn't need to be exactly on top of the sockets, because by clicking near a socket and dragging the mouse near another socket, the nodes sprout hands that join each other near the socket receiving the connection. The cursor is actually represented by the hand that sprouts from the first socket. During the dragging movement, the nodes also have eyes that become happy when the hands meet.

Message on GitHub discussions citing Clifton B.'s suggestion and containing additional comments on it saying "This will probably be more useful when the connections can be restricted between sockets of compatible types, this way their automatic connection is more intuitive".
A small subthread of replies on reddit where people are replying to one another and each time a reply is made it further explains the explanation that came in the previous reply, until the last person finishes the chain by replying "And now I'm here to finish the recursion on the function why", followed by the command "return".

Video shows the socket proximity feature of the Nodezator app in action. In it, different graphics are chosen, one at a time. They appear when the user attempts to connect sockets. The feature helps the user by allowing the user to establish a connection without having to drop the new connection exactly over the other socket (by detecting it as it approaches, hence its name).
