Kerim Friedman 傅可恩 @kerim.one · Oct 31 Probably the most useful aspect of BPMF is that it is well suited for "ruby" characters, where the transcription is alongside the characters. You can do it with HYPY as well, but typographically this is much neater.

Having said that, however, it does have a big negative for Taiwanese students who spend a lot of time (many weeks) in grade school learning how to draw and read BPMF, only then to have to learn the Latin alphabet for English and mother tongue classes. (Most textbooks today use Latin script.)
