Breaking Up with an Abusive Government I used to love you— I mean, I still do, but it's not the same. Not anymore. Not after— You keep pushing and pulling. It's shaking in slow motion and it's giving shaken baby syndrome. You say it's not abuse— your red handprint across my lips doesn't agree. I want to cry but you have stolen all my tears and scattered them in sand— a drop in a desert hardly matters. You want my voice but only so it speaks what you want. And my throat is raw and red because I won't. I will choke myself on blood before I speak for you. I will never stop fighting for you. For what you were. For what we had before him. Jacob Kolasch
