Milkweed in Northern Virginia is bursting out silk from mature seed pods. Migrating (from Mexico) Monarch butterflies will arrive soon for a pit stop en route to the northeast and Canada. They’ll lay eggs on the plants that will hatch into larvae (caterpillars) then craft a bright green cocoon. Out of the cocoon will emerge a new butterfly which will dry its wings and continue north.
